My First Royal Cruise

Here are my thoughts about my first Royal Caribbean cruise.

So heres a little back story. My first two cruises were pre covid. I sailed out of Galveston, Texas in 2017 and 2018 both times on the Carnival Valor. So im comparing apples to oranges here but this is my first experience post pandemic….

This is my first time ever sailing on Royal Caribbean. This is the first time I’ve ever sailed out of the Port of Miami. To say i was a bit nervous and overwhelemed is kind of an understatement. I was in good hands because I had John with me. He had 16 cruises under his belt at the time before this sailing. He has lived in Florida all of his life. I highly suggest if you cruise out of Miami for the first time. Go with someone who has experience doing so. I’m just a country boy from Cajun country. Miami can be a bit challenging for me.

Headed to the Port of Miami

So my first royal cruise was a three day cruise on the Freedom of the Seas. The itenerary ports were Nassau, and Perfect Day at CoCo Cay. When arriving at the port the check in process was very easy. We gave our luggage to the porter. Our check in time was for 11:30AM. Unlike Carnival, the check in process and going through security was super easy. You do not have to wait in a terminal and wait for your zone to be called to board the ship . This is a huge difference and such a great way to get you on the ship so much quicker.

You literally go from check in, through security, then onto the gangway.

Once on board I was mesmerized by the elegance and decor of the Freedom of the Seas. I prefer older ships that don’t have the large passenger capacity compared to the newer mega ships. The Freedom of the Seas has a simple but clean decor. Its bright vibrant colors contrast into visually appealing eye candy. For an older ship, she still has the charm of when she was first brought to sea back in the 2000’s. Freedom of the Seas is very clean and very well maintained. Her atrium will leave you in awe and wonder.
